Simon Murphy, CEO at Battersea Power Station Development Company, said:
“The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be a truly joyous moment to celebrate, and we look forward
to commemorating this at Battersea Power Station with a very British celebration and a series
of family-friendly activities for all to enjoy. We’re also incredibly proud to have been chosen as
the first central London destination visited by the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay on
its return into the UK on 2nd June.
“It’s an extremely exciting year for Battersea Power Station as we prepare to open the iconic
Grade II* listed building to the public for the very first time this September, and these
celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee offer the perfect opportunity to welcome members of the
local community and those from further afield to discover the vibrant new riverside
neighbourhood we’re creating here.” The Queen visited Battersea Power Station in 1946, when the former coal-fired Power Station was still in operation, meeting with the Power Station’s Directors for a behind the scenes tour of Turbine Hall A and Control Room A. The landmark is also known for providing electricity to many notable locations across London whilst in operation, including Buckingham Palace.
Opening from September 2022, Battersea Power Station will be home to 254 residential
apartments, over 100 retail shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as unique event spaces
including the Chimney Lift Experience. The opening will coincide with the launch of this
exciting riverside neighbourhood’s new high street, Electric Boulevard, which will offer a mix
of office space, shops, bars and restaurants, a 164-room hotel, and a community centre.
Circus West Village, the first chapter in the regeneration of Battersea Power Station, is already
home to over 1,700 residents and more than 20 bars, restaurants, cafés, fitness and leisure
offerings including Gordon Ramsay’s Street Pizza, Francesco Mazzei’s Fiume, The Turbine
Theatre, Be Military Fit, DNA VR, Black Sheep Coffee, Boom Cycle and The Cinema in The
Arches. The thriving riverside neighbourhood usually welcomes over three million people each
year thanks to its annual events programme.
With the Northern Line extended to give this new riverside neighbourhood its very own Zone
1 London Underground station, Battersea Power Station is now within 15 minutes of the West
End and the City and is expected to draw visitors from across the capital and the globe,
becoming one of London’s most visited destinations.
